Autumn Winter 2009/2009 Shoe Trends

I always love boots! Therefore I'm glad that over-the-knee and thigh high boots are back with a vengeance and the hottest shoe trend for women in the Autumn (Fall)/Winter 2009/2010 season, but while they scream 'sex' make sure they don't do it in the wrong way. Let's not forget, that both styles of boots are also the domain of those lovely women one sees quite frequently at night ensuring that cars don't linger for too long near street corners. So to avoid the "I wonder how much she charges" glances, you may avoid two main things with any pair of over-the-knee or thigh-high boots you decide to invest in:chunky heels and a high-sheen patent finish.
These are some of the latest season's boots that caught my eyes:-

Sleep paralysis disorder or "kena tindih" in Malay

Lately, I often experience sleep paralysis or in Malay language, "kena tindih". This is when you wake up and you can't move or talk. These weird phenomenon happened to me and it started a few days ago. Basically, something woke me up and I could see the bedroom and I felt like there's someone in the room with me--I felt pressure up against my body (not exactly like a person, but like something was pushing up against me) and I heard noises, like voices saying something that I didn't quite hear or understand, sometimes mumbling. I woke up, opened my eyes and looked at what was before me, then I began closing them again because I felt tired and wanted to go back to sleep. Then, I freaked out trying to get myself up but I could not move--sometimes, it just feels like something is pressing up against me .All of that were pretty scary to me. Then, after that was over, I was terrified. And after a few moments I felt myself calming down.

I tried reading into it and I just learned that this condition is called Sleep Paralysis.

Freeze. Don't move a muscle. What causes sleep paralysis disorder? Sleep paralysis disorder seems like a mighty strange condition to be visited upon people who are soundly sleeping—or just beginning to awake. At these times, victims cannot move. They are paralyzed. They can suffer vivid hallucinations while immobile. Investigations reveal these folks have sleep paralysis disorder. Is it a curse? Is there a cure?

Professor Chris French, has co-authored a paper on sleep paralysis with Julia Santomauro, both of the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit at Goldsmiths, University of London, which is published in Issue 22 (August 2009) of The Psychologist.
If you’ve never heard of sleep paralysis you’re lucky, according to the paper: “It appears that up to 50 per cent of the population will experience sleep paralysis in one form or another at least once in their lifetime, and some people experience it far more often than that”.

What causes sleep paralysis disorder?

Experts say episodes of sleep paralysis can last for seconds—or minutes. An intruding stimulus—a jolt, a noise—can bring the interval to a quick end. The disorder is associated with a particular stage of sleep. People experience during the night three stages of sleep: rapid eye movement sleep, non-rapid eye movement sleep and slow wave sleep. The stages can be detected by recording brain wave activity and observing the rate of eye blinking.

Possible causes :

Sleeping in a face upwards or supine position
Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in,
sleep deprivation
Increased stress
Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
A
lucid dream that immediately precedes the episode.

What are the symptoms of the disorder?

Sleep paralysis disorder occurs during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep—the period when dreaming takes place. Bodily paralysis is a natural occurrence during REM sleep. In fact, the inability to move during that time of dreaming, drifting off—or coming back to full consciousness—is a marvelous safeguard against inadvertent injuries. It seems Mother Nature requires everyone to be fully aware before they jump out of bed and hit the ground running. Otherwise, they might just…hit the ground.

In sleep paralysis disorder, wakefulness resumes but the body still maintains for some period of time—a few seconds to several minutes—its naturally paralyzed state. The newly awakened brain suddenly is firing on all cylinders but in a mounting state of confusion sleepers realize their bodies are incapable of movement. Brain and body are out of sync. It takes a moment to realize the situation and cope by waiting, moving very slowly or moving with force, through sheer will.

What is the emotional component?

Afflicted sleepers can feel panic. Questions scream across the mind in the moments during paralysis. Am I dead? Did I have stroke? Have I become paralyzed for life? What if this feeling never passes? Equally disturbing are the hallucinations that sometimes are a part of sleep paralysis disorder. The fantasies may be delightful or devastating.

Various cultures try to explain the hallucinations by embracing theories of visitations by spirits, witches, devils and ghostly creatures that perch like weighty burdens upon sleepers' chests. Perhaps the visions provide an explanation for reports of close encounters with heavenly angels…or aliens from outer space.

Can treatment be effective?

Medical professionals have found that education offers a means of treatment. Sufferers who learn about the disorder attain a higher level of comfort with the outcomes of this condition. Among the medications used when warranted are Ritalin—which can help to regulate sleep schedules—and Clonazapam—a drug with sedative and anti-convulsive properties.

Before going to extremes—or to bed—victims of sleep paralysis disorder surely will want to try some behavior modification techniques. Recommended behaviors include establishing a regular bedtime and varying sleep positions. Refraining from eating before bedtime may help. Another effective technique relates to stress reduction; try not to think about problems before bed.

How important is sleep for health?

The benefits of sleep are well documented. The body renews itself during sleep. An undisturbed sleep is crucial for maintaining vim and vigor. The hours when a person sleeps are the hours during which the body repairs itself; the immune system, the nervous system and all the body's marvelous mechanisms are maintained at that time. True is the old Irish proverb: A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor's book.

It's just a LITTLE Crush ;)

I may have a crush or crazy for someone..:) and these quotes gotta represent my feelings...

The worst way to miss someone is when they are right beside you and yet you know you can never have them.

I get the best feeling in the world when you say hi to me, or even smile, because I know even if just for a second, I crossed your mind.

I wonder, what I could Do or say to make him like me. I wonder, what or who I need to be, to be his. I wonder, when just being me will be enough.

Sometimes I wonder what you think of me or if you do at all.

I wonder if you think of me half as much as I think about you.

I never found the words to say, you're the one I think about each day.

It's not telling you how I feel that scares me it's what you'll say back.

I want a new life and I want it with you.

It's just hard to think I'll never get the chance to say that I love you

Late at night when all the world is sleeping, I stay up and think of you... and I wish on a star that somewhere you're thinking of me, too.

I wish you could hear all the words I'm too afraid to say.

I don't know which is worse, keeping your love for someone a secret or telling them and risk being rejected.

Life and love is kinda funny some time cause the guys we want are so hard to get, but the ones that we dont want... are so hard to get rid of...

Even though I've stopped "liking you" every time someone mentions your name my head turns towards them. It's like every time I hear it, I think of what we had, and all we could have had.

I hate the way I could never hate you.

There are so many things I'd like to tell you. I wish you could understand, but if I told you, both our worlds would change. For good or bad, I'm not sure.

I never regretted telling you I liked you, I only regretted never hearing what you really thought of me.

Usually, when any guy looks me in the eyes... I have to look away after about 3 seconds, but with him... I struggle to take my eyes off of him.

You will go home and sleep well; I keep sighing in my sleep. Do you ever dream of me?

The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings - words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.

Look into my eyes for one moment, and then you will realize how much you mean to me...

"Crazy For You"-Madonna

Swaying room as the music starts
Strangers making the most of the dark
Two by two their bodies become one
I see you through the smokey air
Can't you feel the weight of my stare
You're so close but still a world away
What I'm dying to say, is that

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you, crazy for you
Trying hard to control my heart
I walk over to where you are
Eye to eye we need no words at all
Slowly now we begin to move
Every breath I'm deeper into you
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind, you'll see

It's all brand new, I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
I'm crazy, crazy for you

Aesop's Fables and me

Bird experiment shows Aesop's fable may be true....I went through this Yahoo! news headlines and it brought me back to my younger years, reading my first Aesop's Fables book ; a gift from my sister when I was 11.
Aesop (from the Greek Αἴσωπος — Aisopos), famous for his fables, was a slave who lived mid-fifth century BC, in Ancient Greece.

I reminisce reading Aesop's Fables as one of my favourite books when I was a kid. So I was interested when I read the new study by British researchers that verifies the scenario in The Crow and the Pitcher. It's a tale of a thirsty crow finds a pitcher, but can't reach the water at the bottom. So it drops stones into the pitcher, gradually raising the water level. The moral: Necessity is the mother of invention. (Or, Little by little does the trick.)

I believe that kids still can read Aesop's Fables today because the tales remain relevant. To me, I still remember reading each story and taking in what they meant, remembering their morals that was illustrated with one line underneath the picture:
Moral: _______

Aesop's Fables brings me back to the lovely memories and curiosity of my childhood. It's just simply amazing!

Mind your language:Pass Out or Pass Away?

This was one of the most interesting news that I have ever received. Couple of days ago,I received an update on my Facebook that Yasmin Ahmad have passed away. This was quickly followed by blogs and forums as everyone tried to confirm the news.
I was then verified by TheStar online that she had passed out during a presentation with TV3 and had been rushed to a hospital. She had PASSED OUT, not PASSED AWAY!
It was very interesting to see that people love to spread speculation that is not verified yet. I think, the person who originally broke the initial news probably got confused between “passed out” and “passed away"...:):)
I am not going to mention further on the recent decision of PPSMI, but this clearly shows how poor the English standards in Malaysia . At least, please verify any news before it spreads wider or wait for official confirmation to ensure that the news is accurate before any speculation needs to be made. This also shows that most people will just go with what the initial news and oddly enough, for them bad news is more juicier!

Pass away

Pronunciation : pas u'wey

Synonyms: decease, die (Stop Living), exit, expire, go, pass, perish

Definition: [v] go out of existence; "She hoped that the problem would eventually pass away" [v] pass from physical life and lose all all bodily attributes and functions necessary to sustain life; "She died from cancer"

Pass out

Cupid

The recent telco advert and Amy Winehouse's recent single gave me interest to dig more on Cupid. Though, some beliefs or religions do not believe in Cupids. However, we can't help but to believe in Love.

Modern reinterpretations of the Cupid character may leave off traditional details of the character, but the character's main purpose generally remains to help or make people fall in love or possibly engage in physical intimacy.

In the Roman version, Cupid was the son of Venus (goddess of love) and Mars (god of war). In the Greek version he was named Eros and seen as one of the primordial gods (though other myths exist as well). Cupid was often depicted with wings, a bow, and a quiver of arrows. When his mother got extremely jealous of the princess Psyche, who was so loved by her subjects that they forgot to worship Venus, she ordered Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the vilest thing in the world. When Cupid saw Psyche, however, he was so overcome by her astounding beauty that he dropped an arrow on his foot, and so fell in love with her himself. More info on Cupid can be found here

"Cupid" by Amy Winehouse

Cupid,
Draw back your bow
I am begging your arrow flow
Straight to my lover´s heart
For me, nobody but me

You better, please,
Hear my cry
And then your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart
For me.

I don't want to bother you
But I'm in distress
As danger love is losing
All my happiness
Oh, I love a man
Who doesn't know I exist
And this you can fix,

So Cupid
Draw back your bow
And lay your arrow flow
Straight to my lover´s heart
For me, nobody but me

Cupid
Please hear my cry
I am begging your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart
For me.

Now, if your arrow makes
His love strong for me I swear
I'm gonna love him
Until eternity

I know between the both of us
His heart we can steal
You can help me if you will

So, cupid
Draw back your bow
And let your arrow flow
Straight to my lover's heart
For me, nobody but me

Cupid, please hear my cry
And then your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart
For me
Yeah yeah yeah cupid

Oh oh cupid I love him love him

An art beyond words:The National Anthem

Being a music lover all this while, this issue has always puzzled me.

Thanks to this brilliant view 'If music be the food of patriotism' that I have read in The Sun newspaper today which has given me the guts to comment on it as it is one of my favourite interest which is the music itself.

An anthem usually acting as a symbol for a distinct group of people, as in the term "national anthem" or "sports anthem". The word "anthem" is commonly used to describe a celebratory song or composition for a distinct group, as in the term "national anthem". The term "anthemic" is a modern word coined to describe music with an emotive connotation to it. (excerpted from Wikipedia)

I really do think that a national anthem has deep intentions to give inner strength to its citizen’s soul and feed aspiration for the spirit to any country.

We may adapt the anthem from any version and yes, it is still okay to change the melody depends on situation whether to enhance the repertoire or to beautify its melody. Though, I do wish that it's not because of the trend influence or changes of certain government. Also, please make the official announcement across the nation so that the citizens are aware of the changes. Not too worry , the citizens' ears are all alert and our hearts are open for positive revolution.

I am still in doubt whether the goal of this anthem melody changing was to determine if the selected musical mode elicits an emotional response, and if so what type of emotional response. Whether we listened to any compositions (major, minor, mixed modes or instrumental noise) and set so-called a standardized mood inventory after each. I guess the results from any altered composition are to indicate what emotional responses are affected by the selected musical mode? What outcome that the decision maker actually prefers? The positive response, negative response or the mixed and extreme emotional responses? Or is it depends on the decision makers’ mood swings and current taste?

As a result, this will leave the respective citizens a major confusion in case the country has several events going on around the globe at the same time. For instance; sports occasions, worship celebrations, prize giving ceremonies or even during school assembly which will ended up to various versions of national anthem at the same time?

Based on my experience when choosing the right anthem version during a university’s graduation ceremony two years back, I was very certain to play the national anthem of England-God Save the Queen rather than our own Negaraku. Luckily on the very last minute I managed to pull out the correct version of Negaraku that I found from the official government website. No surprise, the version has been changed again within less than a year. From marching version to softer version of piano instrumental and back to marching again with a little traditional flavour here and there and what’s next...only God knows.

Nevertheless, despite the rapid changes of the national anthem melody, I do hope that the meaningful lyrics will remain the same as to me they have the significant role as an art to beautify the national anthem itself.

English translation

The Magical Word of Assalamualaikum-Did Obama's speech inspire us?

It began with Obama greeting the crowd with the magical word--assalamu alaikum, or "peace be upon you," and was bolstered by weaving in quotes from the Quran. And the speech was delivered the way you introduce yourself here to neighbors as a newcomer to town: explaining where you're from, your passions, your dreams, but not delving too deeply into prickly things. That unveiling comes later, during ensuing weeks, months and years.

He came with goodwill and pretty sentences, but the question kept echoing: Were they enough? The 55-minute address at Cairo University was short on policy details. The speech made up for by linking Obama's story -- the Christian son of an African Muslim father -- with his administration's goals of ending the Arab-Israeli crisis, sitting with Iran at the negotiating table and calling on Muslims to reject the fanatical voices of Osama bin Laden and others.
In the end, a few words and phrases stood out, either because they were said or because they weren't even alluded to.

Yes, there were many interesting moments during Obama's speech in Cairo. The moment that got the most attention, in Search anyway, was Obama's use of "

assalamu alaikum." Said the President: "I'm also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country: Assalaamu alaykum." After the speech, searches soared on the greeting, its meaning, and translation. According to the Islamic Dictionary, it literally means: "Peace be upon you." It is a shortened form of a phrase that translates to "Peace be unto you and so may the mercy of Allah and His blessings."

I highlighted some paragraphs from Obama’s speech that I think very interesting for us to have a second thought of them.. :)

- I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles - principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.

- As the Holy Koran tells us, "Be conscious of God and speak always the truth." That is what I will try to do - to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us, and firm in my belief that the interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than the forces that drive us apart.

- Part of this conviction is rooted in my own experience. I am a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims. As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith.

- Freedom of religion is central to the ability of peoples to live together. We must always examine the ways in which we protect it. For instance, in the United States, rules on charitable giving have made it harder for Muslims to fulfill their religious obligation. That is why I am committed to working with American Muslims to ensure that they can fulfill zakat.

image: Gerald Herbert AP

- The sixth issue that I want to address is women's rights. I know there is debate about this issue. I reject the view of some in the West that a woman who chooses to cover her hair is somehow less equal, but I do believe that a woman who is denied an education is denied equality. And it is no coincidence that countries where women are well-educated are far more likely to be prosperous. It is easier to start wars than to end them. It is easier to blame others than to look inward; to see what is different about someone than to find the things we share.

But we should choose the right path, not just the easy path. There is also one rule that lies at the heart of every religion - that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. This truth transcends nations and peoples - a belief that isn't new; that isn't black or white or brown; that isn't Christian, or Muslim or Jew. It's a belief that pulsed in the cradle of civilization, and that still beats in the heart of billions. It's a faith in other people, and it's what brought me here today.

We have the power to make the world we seek, but only if we have the courage to make a new beginning, keeping in mind what has been written.

The Holy Koran tells us, "O mankind! We have created you male and a female; and we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another." The Talmud tells us: "The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace." The Holy Bible tells us, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." The people of the world can live together in peace. We know that is God's vision. Now, that must be our work here on Earth.

Thank you. And may God's peace be upon you...See Obama’s full speech--here

Well for me, the speech did inspire people ..no, not to inspire HOPE but to search for the true meaning and translation of the magical word "Assalamualaikum"..:)

I Knew I Loved You ..How to approach your crush..

We have all experienced having a crush during some point in our lives. However, actually approaching and talking to that person is quite another story, especially when we are shy.
There are some ways to go about approaching the object of your desire...:)

1.Think about what you are going to say to your crush. The first step is to think about what you want to say to this person. Be creative. For instance, a compliment on what they are wearing or their hairstyle will do wonders to open up a line of conversation.

2.Choose the best time to approach them. If you are too shy to talk to them in a public place, try catching them when they are alone and the conversation can be more personal.

3.Let them know that that you like them. If you have a crush on them you should let them know--they may like you just as much but you will never know unless you ask them. Not too direct, but try to open the conversation casually and let it naturally lead to where you can let them know that you have a fancy for them.

4.See where it all goes. You never know unless you talk to them. Maybe they will be thrilled that you like them, maybe not. You have to buck up the courage and not worry about rejection. Instead, worry about affection. There is just as good a chance that your crush will like you as there is that they will not.

You will never know unless you ask.
Be forward, it makes everything much easier in life....

I dedicate this lovely and meaningful song to anyone that have yet got the chance to say how much we have fallen to our crush.....:)

You may not be the greatest in the world, but you have a special place in my heart, and I knew I loved you before I met YOU...

I Knew I Loved You by Savage Garden

Maybe its intuition
Some things you just don't question
Like in your eyes
I see my future in an instant
And there it goes
I think I've found my best friend
I know that it might sound more than
A little crazy but I believe

I knew I loved you, before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you, before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

There's just no rhyme or reason
Only this sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I'm searching for
I think I found my way home

I know that it might sound more than
A little crazy but I believe...

I knew I loved you, before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you, before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

(A thousand angels dance around you
I am complete now that I found you)
(I knew I loved you, before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you, before I met you
I have been waiting all my life) ~

(I knew I loved you, before I met you
I knew I loved you)

Inspiration from The Climb by Miley Cyrus

I am not a fan of Miley Cyrus, but her latest song ,The Climb made me feeling inspired and motivated.

The Climb make me wanna live to the fullest, chase my dreams and never EVER give up!

It makes me feel that whatever happens, "KEEP MOVING ON" until the end.

I deserve it. I am who I am.

The Climb by Miley Cyrus

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head sayin,
You'll never reach it,
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing,
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes they knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I,I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
Keep on moving

Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It's all about
It's all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith
