Beauty tips: Sugar Scrub

Sugar is cheap and easy to find (in your kitchen) and works great on skin. There's no way to beat the price as any combination of sugar will never cost as much as the cheapest stuff for an amazing and cheap body scrub.

Personally I would recommend only using this once or twice a week, otherwise you could over exfoliate and dry out your skin if you have a sensitive type of skin.

Yes sugar ruins your teeth but it does miracles on your skin. It is not advisable to be used on face (way to harsh), but perfect for body and feet. Everyone should give the sugar scrub a shot because it is so cheap and readily available. Even for those who have the most dry and sensitive skin,regular scrubs might irritate their skin.

You can use regular white sugar that you can purchase from the grocery store to make a terrific scrub. It is quite rough at first, so it polishes well.

Here's how to use it: wet hands and parts to be exfoliated-for now let's say elbow/body. Wet elbow/body with tepid or cool water, pour handful of sugar into hands (if you like, add your daily bath liquid to make a smooth paste). Wet it a tiny bit so it clumps then start to apply it to your elbow in circular motions. Then rinse with cool water, or even warm now. The only reason for not using warm water to start is that it will make the sugar melt before you can apply it. The result is glowy polished skin. Then just do whatever you do normally to your body next--dry it off, apply moisturiser, etc.

This also works wonders for dry or itchy hands, just apply a good hand lotion after. Again, it is a rough, polishing scrub so it would probably be best to try it on your hands or feet first if you are not sure about putting it on your body. Use maybe once or twice a week, whatever works personally. Good luck - it's a great money saver and as simple as ABC, affordable or downright cheap and you probably have the sugar already somewhere in your kitchen cabinets.

In short a homemade sugar scrub will leave your skin looking and feeling soft, radiant, rejuvenated, and silky smooth…well younger actually:)

But most important, all this with 1 simple sweet natural ingredient; no unnatural or harmful chemicals, no vague ingredients, no designerprice tag..:)

P/s:just make sure to wash thoroughly to prevent ants:)

Note: You could also try this with Extra Virgin Olive oil and honey. It will soothe and moisturise your skin on top of the exfoliating sugar.

Style Inspiration: Red Carpet Evening Dresses

Play it safe or dare to be different?

If you are lacking inspiration for your award show on the red carpet or any gala dinner, the runway is one of the best resources. You can take cues from past runways for vintage trends or current runway for upcoming trends & styles and choosing the bold colors that were hot then, and use these as the starting point for dreaming up your fabulous evening look.

Devil found in famous Giotto fresco

Art restorers have discovered the figure of a devil hidden in the clouds of one of the most famous frescos by Giotto in the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, church officials said on Saturday.

The devil was hidden in the details of clouds at the top of fresco number 20 in the cycle of the scenes in the life and death of St Francis painted by Giotto in the 13th century.

The discovery was made by Italian art historian Chiara Frugone. It shows a profile of a figure with a hooked nose, a sly smile, and dark horns hidden among the clouds in the panel of the scene depicting the death of St Francis.

The figure is difficult to see from the floor of the basilica but emerges clearly in close-up photography.

Sergio Fusetti, the chief restorer of the basilica, said Giotto probably never wanted the image of the devil to be a main part of the fresco and may have painted it in among the clouds “to have a bit of fun.”

The master may have painted it to spite someone he knew by portraying him as a devil in the painting, Fusetti said on the convent’s website.

Falling rain brings back memories

Rain can be so calming, so relaxing, so cleansing and bring memories such as our childhood. Try to look at the dark of the sky, when we see everything looking so green, when we smell the earth as the falling water, as we feel cool air rose and cooling the ground, and cooling the hot day, it does calming us down, we feel so peaceful, so fresh, so cool and so revitalizing.

As we close our eyes and listen to the sound of the falling rain, feeling the rain falling down on the leaves, no other sounds except the rain, splashing, as we closed our eyes and we breath deeply and we feel the fresh of the nature. Some of us just stay home, curl up and be lazy, as rain could just be an excuse to just stay home for comfort and retreat ourselves while taking deep breath and blow it out. We can appreciate the rain more rather than singing; rain, rain go away:) We just embrace the rain, for soothing and relaxing feeling.

Rain makes you remember when you were small and about your old friends .That was a beautiful moment and you can not have it again.

We as kids love playing in the rain. We love the way it feels as it falls down our faces, and to some of us it always means that our playmates would be out and our adventures are about to start again.

It is so sad that most children today are denied of these childhood experiences. I could imagine that our future generations talk about rain and they cannot reminisce their memories during rain a few years from now and he or she would probably say that rainfalls are not that clean anymore and they sting.

It really made me think about how beautiful our nature was back then.

Fear of Making Changes?

Have you ever wondered why so many of us go along putting up with things we don't like about our life, but doing nothing about it? We feel it all the time.

"I hate my job. But I have no choice, even I am not happy here but there's nothing else out there".

"I don't really like this housing area, but I can't afford to move".

or "My partner and I are not really that happy any more, but we don't want to break up because we can't find anyone else to love".

It seems to be an accepted fact that change is bad. Scary. It is risky to be done. We build change up into such a big thing that we become paralysed in its wake. We build up excuses and beliefs around that change, to stop us from having to take any action. We pretend the change is a huge mountain that we couldn't possibly climb, so we turn our back on it.

So we go on, day becoming week, becoming month and then year, putting up with things that make us feel miserable, forgetting what it felt like to have our heart sing, because that might require change. But then there comes a day when something snaps and the scales tip. We realise we have to DO something. We can't leave things as they are. And we take steps to make that change.

No one can force us to be ready to change. Change can't happen until the pain of changing becomes less than the pain of staying the same.

We build the fear of change into something of such great proportions that we numb out the pain of staying the same. We use all sorts of creative excuses and behaviours to pretend we don't mind. We eat too much, drink too much, smoke, go out too much, get angry, drive too fast, exercise too much, even meditate too much - all trying to block out the pain of our reality, because we're so scared of changing.

Is there anything we can Do?

The first step towards being able to change is to understand WHAT - specifically - you are scared of.
Then, see if the specific item is "real" - or is it just the projection of a scared Ego-mind? Usually we find that very little of it is real.
Once you have got your fears back under control, you can start looking at the excuses you're using to avoid having to change. They're usually deeply-held beliefs that we picked up years ago, that protect us from ever having to get out of our comfort zone...
Then it's about deciding whether you really WANT the change. And, if you do, breaking it down into baby steps. The Dalai Lama reminds us that if you stand really close to any problem in life, you can successfully make it look enormous. But if you step back and get things into perspective, it always looks smaller and more manageable.

Being scared of making a change is just our unconscious mind's way of telling us the change is important to us, but outside of our comfort zone. And yet nothing always stays the same. Change is an essential part of living and growing. Without it, we would stagnate. It's being attached to the present and worrying about the future that makes it scary. And, deep down, we know we have a FREEDOM OF CHOICE to make changes that will make our heart sings while we still can, don't we?

For a few days once a month, women prefer funny guys to rich, handsome ones, scientists have discovered. Wit counts more than security – but only briefly.
Scientists at the University of California showed 41 women pictures of two types of men, a creative but penniless group, and a wealthy, successful group. Who would you date?
If they were asked when they were ovulating, the women preferred the cheeky-but-poor guys.
I often complain about scientists wasting public money, but in this instance, this is a study so important that it should instantly be given the entire research budget of every university on earth.
Why do women like witty guys during their fertile period? Christine Nicholson, contributing editor of Scientific American, explained in a commentary: "Humour is a sign of creativity and intelligence and, hence, an indicator of high-quality genes."
Another finding: men and women both list "sense of humour" in their list of essential characteristics for the perfect date. But they mean opposite things.
Women mean: "I want a guy who makes me laugh."
Men mean: "I want a woman who laughs at my jokes."
Of course, it all made sense. I showed this to Sandy Gandhi, a female comedian who is cute and funny but complains about not getting dates.
"So, that’s why I’m still single," she sighed. Guys weren’t charmed by her humour because they were waiting for her to be charmed by theirs.
"All the men I’ve gone out with had that certain something, which I call the X factor," she grumbled. "Every one of them became quickly an ‘ex’."
I told her the scientific reason: women are the choosier sex. So the guy has to show off his brains, while women naturally take the role of judging panel.
This also resonated with Sandy. She said that a girlfriend once told her: "There are only three words to describe a woman of your beauty and talent who is still single: picky, picky, picky."
Anyway, these scientific discoveries are interesting, but tough to apply.
I mean, how do you find out if a woman is ovulating when you haven’t even got to the dating part yet? Can you just slide it into the conversation and hope she doesn’t think you’re weird?
"Hi, what’s your name? Are you an ovulating Scorpio by any chance?"
It would be better if one could make a general announcement at the nightclub. "Calling all ladies who are in the fertile part of their monthly cycle – kindly line up next to the guys who are poor and ugly but kind of funny."
The day after I read about this study, I got an invitation to speak to a women’s group. I was a bit wary about speaking to an all-female audience. But who knows, they might like me.
"May I ask a question? Will they be ovulating?" I asked.

There was a long pause. The agent asked: "I don’t know. Is that an issue?" I told him that it might be.
He said that he would contact the event organiser and see if he could find out. He never called back.
I’m guessing members of the audience were in the wrong part of the cycle. Phew, I had a narrow escape.

I was so hurt when i woke up and saw the breaking news titled-Remembering Alexander McQueen..what? he’s gone? Hey, he's just 40, he just way too young to die? I just can't believe it and i was speechless while googling his name all over to find out whether the news is true. At the end, yes it was:( What a Truly shocking news to wake up to.Alexander Mc Queen, the genius in turning art into fashion-in fact, his designs were like art-A living Art that walks on the runway…I'm so speechless...
I always looked forward his amazing runway shows..I was influenced and spirited by his and Galliano's designs when I created eccentric designs like the ones I did during my last fashion show. He did inspired me.Now the mother of all goth fashion designer is gone.. Could anyone succeed him? Isn’t there any room for someone like this on earth? We never know. The other designer that I love is Galliano. As we all are, I’m in shock. I find the words written by Sarah Jessica Parker and Tavi here are comforting and beautiful. In respect for his family and friends, my greatest condolence to them. I’m terribly missed you Lee McQueen..

Sarah Jessica Parker: "I am shocked and overcome with grief upon learning about the untimely death of the quiet genius Alexander McQueen. My heart goes out to his family and all those who worked for and with him. In his atelier, his showroom, his stores and various business interests that were so rapidly growing, he was beloved. By all of them. He was talented well beyond his years and the seriousness and unrivaled talent which he applied to his work is in bountiful display year after year and collection after collection. Every single inspired, original, lofty, whimsical, stunning, brilliant and jaw dropping detail was Alexander Mcqueen. There has never been anyone like him. And there simply never will be. What is more devastating is that despite all his success thus far, creatively, critically and commercially, his greatest achievements lay ahead of him. The future would be whatever he hoped to make of it. His independence, his skill, his quiet fortitude, his devotion, his love of his work, family and friends will be an unthinkable loss. He consistently delivered collections of extravagant creativity, the type of stuff where you just look at it and try to absorb it and you can't believe a person made this. Being lucky enough to gaze at a glimpse into such an artist's vision, and knowing that you can't even imagine everything that was put into making it, and suddenly feeling so happy and joyful about humanity, and life, because, Jesus, a person made this..is incredibly uplifting. Very rarely are we blessed with a talent so strong and unparalleled and a passion so pure and driven.
It's taken me an hour to write these few sentences, and it seems like all I've been able to do since hearing the news is cry. But now it's time to go back in the style.com archives, in my magazines, to every photo I've collaged and tacked on my wall, and appreciate everything he poured his life into.
So thank you, Alexander McQueen. Rest in peace.Tavi

No Longer Wedged on the Fashion Highway

Have the desire to improve your fashion style sense and change your life ?

No matter what age or shape you are, a few small steps can change your whole perspective on how you look and how you feel.

Are you stuck in a fashion groove?

Do you ignore current fashion trends and consider that style is only something that comes with money and fame?

Do you go for the same safe styles and colors when out shopping?

Do you wear the same “best” outfit to every important meeting or social occasion?

Do you turn down invitations because you have nothing to wear?

Are You Stuck in a one-style fashion?

If you are the kind of person that stares at your wardrobe yet still cannot find something suitable to put on, then you may well be stuck in a one-style fashion. If thinking what to wear to the office every morning has become a nightmare, then it is time to update your look!

First of all, just remember these major rules:

SIZE DOES NOT MATTER! (when it comes to fashion styles)Being stylish has nothing to do with your SIZE. It is about making the most of your shape.

Being stylish does not have to break the bank. In the words of Victoria Beckham in her latest book That Extra Half an Inch, (2007) “Whether you’ve got £20 to spend in Top Shop or £2,000 to spend at Gucci, looking good isn’t about money, it’s about style, and style never goes out of fashion.” (great advice,Posh!)

Getting older (or poorer) is no excuse to become stuck in just a style. If you are unemployed or a stay-at-home mum, whilst having children and keeping house may mean you have less time and money to spend on yourself , that doesn’t mean that you should feel any less attractive and desirable than you did when you were young, free and single or working!

ATTITUDE + CONFIDENT = FASHION STYLE + TREND SETTER

Fashion style is also about ATTITUDE. Feel CONFIDENT in yourself about the way you look and that will affect others too. In the words of fashion designer icon Coco Chanel, “Fashion is architecture. It’s a matter of proportions.”

Try not to think much about the word “fashion” and think “style” – it may be mentally less intimidating or more “wearable".

Even if you stay at home, make an effort to dress or wear makeup/accessories everyday as if you are going out. This changes your whole approach to even the most mundane household chores. You will find you have a more optimistic attitude and are less inclined to be reduced to a couch potato, in your slovenly sweat pants and baggy T-shirt.
Overhaul your wardrobe--Get rid of those items which are outdated, do not suit you or simply do not make you feel good. Make room for that new wardrobe of clothes that you are going to build, slowly, piece by piece.

Take stock of how many classic items you currently have in your closet. Start building new outfits which will prove versatile and timeless – go anywhere and do anything. You should aim to have a wardrobe base of well cut, classic pieces and a few cheap fun, fashionable outfits that are right on trend, which can be replaced every season.

Treat your wardrobe as an investment. Create a closet that is full of must-have pieces rather than make-do ones.

Ensure that your wardrobe is built around some style staples which will take you from season to season and can be dressed up or down. A good coat/blazer, a little black dress, well cut denims, a classic pair of black/plain coloured pants, and a stylish crisp white or plain shirt. Update these looks every season or 3-4 months with some fabulous accessories.

Don't forget, buy a really great bag and a pair of stylish shoes which will transform any simple outfit to superb.

Dress accordingly to your body shape. Are you a pear, apple, brick, hour glass or inverted triangle?
It is important to tone down your flaws and make the most of your assets.

Shop smarter. Ask yourself a few key questions regarding what suits you before you shop and plan what to buy in advance.

There is never a better time than the start of the new year to create a brand new you.

Detox your wardrobe, clearing out those outfits which do not make you feel good. The second is to learn what cuts and colors work best for you and the basic style rules of women's fashion.

The seven deadly sins of Halloween fashion

Ever since my parents could wiggle me into a pink bunny costume with built-in footie pajamas, I have been a complete Halloween freak. Not the typical cover-myself-in-blood-and-play-with-a-Ouija-board kind of freak, but one that obsesses over every detail and gets legitimately mad at people who just stick Halloween in the category of Hallmark cash cows. The most crucial aspect for me has always been my costume – the outfit with a night-long lifespan that can either make a statement or fall flat like molded pumpkin pie.

To deter anyone from a dreaded ensemble faux pas, I have assembled a Divine Comedy of the Seven Deadly Sins of Halloween Fashion, and how you can avoid them.

1. The “too soon” costume is bound to appear this year, following the recent deaths of pop culture icons like Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze and Farrah Fawcett. While these legends have always been public idols, it might not be so politically correct to portray them post mortem. Anyone who offers themselves up for public scrutiny, however, is fair game. That means you, Kate Gosselin.

2. As Lindsay Lohan put it in “Mean Girls”: “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it. The hardcore girls just wear lingerie and some form of animal ears.” While many store-bought costumes come with more glances from male creepsters and less fabric, the notion of “tomorrow is November” is occasionally overlooked. This is increasingly evident on Halloween, when college girls might as well be streaking in Antarctica due to their lack of body coverage in frigid temperatures.

3. At every Halloween party, there is always “that guy” without a costume. When you ask what he is supposed to be, he sheepishly replies, “I’m dressed as myself.” Even if it is 6 p.m. on Halloween and you are at a loss for ideas, pick up a mask from a costume shop. They are less expensive than a full costume, and you will avoid being tagged as “that guy who hates Halloween.”

4. Overspending is a major Halloween sin. Packaged costumes are outrageously priced, with the added disaster of bumping into a hundred people wearing your same outfit. Assembling a costume yourself is drastically cheaper and exponentially more creative, and fabric stores and thrift shops will generally carry any raw materials you might need.

5. Couples who come in costume together are risky. Opting for something straightforward, like Bonnie and Clyde or Caesar and Cleopatra, makes paired costumes exciting. Venturing down the path of “ketchup and mustard” and “plug and socket” is when couples’ costumes get downright creepy.

6. With most of your focus directed toward what is happening below the neckline, it is easy to forget about the magic of makeup. It is the easiest way to play up your Halloween look, and just for one day no one can mock you for channeling Mimi from “The Drew Carey Show.” Cosmetics giant MAC has just assembled a look book of makeup layouts good enough to stand alone as costumes, making it even easier for the artistically challenged to paint their way to a more chic Halloween costume.

7. Perhaps the most deadly of all Halloween sins is thinking inside the box. Witches, fairies and cats are a dime a dozen and drain the holiday of its creative rapport. Prevent yourself from going as something predictable and search for inspiration. You do not have to break the bank for a costume; most of your supplies for an innovative getup are already in your closet. Do not hesitate to turn heads and raise some eyebrows. Even if you earn the occasional “I can’t believe she’s wearing that!” comment, Halloween is supposed to be about the wow factor, so slap on some crazy makeup, wear something that would make Lady Gaga proud and have a stylish Halloween.

Paris Spring 2010 runway: The Lack of Couture Touch

No doubt, it was a brilliant and nice show for the Paris Spring 2010 season.Part of the runway show seemed too young but it’s refreshing to see a viewpoint that is chic, together and mature. It would have been nice to see more designs and some skirt lengths dropped a couture touch even it's for the Spring.

To me, all they were missing some eccentric fashion(except for John Galliano ) that obviously would attract the show and make people talking about it for at least the whole season.

Anyhow, things have wrapped up but the desire to look couture yet chic hasn’t gone away. It’s going to be interesting to watch how the runway plays out for next season....;);)

A size 12 model leads the final walk-out at the Mark Fast catwalk show at London Fashion Week. The designer used size 12 and 14 girls alongside more conventional-sized models to showcase his knitted dresses

Fashionistas nearly fell off their Louboutins when a designer sent "plus size" models down the catwalk to showcase his figure-hugging designs during London Fashion Week.

Fuller-figured: Curvier women were used to model Mark Fast designs

Preparing for his London Fashion Week slot, knitwear designer Mark Fast decided to challenge the obsession with size zero models and use curvier women to showcase his creations.

It was a bold move - and one which nearly led to his entire project unravelling.
When he told his design team that his figure-hugging outfits would be paraded down the runway by size 12 and 14 models, two of his people were apparently so angry they quit.

The stylist and creative designer deserted Fast, 28, just three days before Saturday's event at the University of Westminster.

The show was only saved after freelancers Daniela Agnelli and Natalie Hubbarb stepped in to help Fast, working into the early hours to ensure all the designs were ready for the big day.
Happily, it was a great success, with three models from the agency 12+ UK gracing the catwalk.

Amanda May, Fast's creative director, yesterday blamed the walkout on 'creative differences' over the use of larger models. 'There was a team change and we are glad we stuck to our vision,' she said.

'The decision to use fuller girls is something we have been talking about. There's an idea that only thin and slender women are able to wear Mark's dresses and he wanted to combat that. We wanted women to know they didn't have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress - curvier women can look even better in them.'

The models used in the show were Hayley Morley, 21, a size 12, Laura Catterall, 20, a size 14 and Gwyneth Harrison, 25, a size 12-14.

Sarah Watkinson, 37, founded 12+ UK in 2000 and has 37 models on her books.
She said: 'I'm very happy that Amanda and Mark stuck to their passion. They really wanted to do it but it was difficult for them.

'Mark has been passionate about using larger women and really wanted to show that they look great in his dresses.

'Every time I think things are progressing, they end up going back to how they've always been. I hope this has sparked lasting changes.'

Fast, a Canadian, has also been involved in the photographic exhibition All Walks Beyond The Catwalk, which features models aged 18 to 65 and sized eight to 16 wearing clothes created by young London designers.

The exhibition, which opened on Friday at Somerset House, attempts to challenge the narrow view of beauty in the fashion world.

The day before Fast's show, chairman of the Institute of Psychiatry's eating disorder team, Professor Ulrike Schmidt, had raised concerns over the use of stick-thin models.
He said: 'We are very concerned that the lack of medical checks of models at London Fashion Week, coupled by an environment where being underweight is the norm, prevents those with eating disorders into gaining an insight into their condition.'
